Bodrov is uniquely defensible. It lies atop a rock formation that resembles a round table with one central leg and is sometimes called Table Rock. The formation is 500 feet high and 800 feet across at the top, but only 100 feet across at the bottom.
A winding path spirals up the base and enters the rock just below the wide portion at the top. Inside the entrance is a labyrinth of winding caverns that can be sealed off in multiple locations. The entire base is a honeycomb of these caves and tunnels and many open up to give crow’s nest views of attackers climbing up the winding path.

Brodov’s greatest defensible asset is also its biggest hindrance. While difficult is the task for invading armies to penetrate, so too is the task to bring supplies into the city. This makes Brodrov an impractical place to support more than 1000 residents although there is enough space and vacant residences to support ten times that number.

People living here don’t pay attention to it anymore, but the entire formation cannot possibly be natural. Sharp corners and perfect circles are evident throughout and the entire structure as well as the buildings that predate it’s current populace seem to have been carved from the same monolithic stone.

The March of Saviors

The city’s greatest festival masks its somber purpose. Every few years the city’s population must be reigned in so the city’s grain reserves are not depleted in case of siege. A lottery is called although only the poor, sick, and elderly ever seem to be chosen. They are rounded up and paraded through the streets, given a giant feast and at the end of the day sent on their way outside the city’s boundaries. Dozens die the first night for treacherous are the dark highways of the Ninth World. Others manage to make their lives elsewhere. The nobility calls this day March of the Saviors. The peasants call it the Slottery.

The local chapter of Aeon Priests use this as an opportunity to get young, able-bodied men and women to collect artifacts for them. Any person who can bring back an artifact of great power or usefulness can choose 10 people to be permanently exempt from the March. A few years ago, Samuel the Absolved wondered into an unknown cave and brought back an artifact that turned the city’s clouds into water, eliminating the need to bring water up the winding path. The city’s ancient waterways flowed once more and a small lake has been building down below from the plentiful spilloff. Samuel, once a criminal destined to exile, is now a wealthy noble and local celebrity.

The Vacant Palace

The vacant palace is home away from home for Queen Armalu, although, as its name suggests, she has never been there. It is a sprawling mansion built more than 100 years ago by an ignorant but well-intentioned suitor named Baron de Soler. Back then, it was believed that Bodrov would be a city of great importance, which never came to pass. He told the queen that in time of great calamity, she should come to the safest city in the world. Wise of him, and yet foolish, for he didn’t realize how truly committed she was in never leaving her chambers in Empiternal House. The Baron is long since gone, but the estate is still kept by duitiful servants as per the wishes in his last will and testament.
